Creation vs. Evolution in Schools Essay - 746 Words

A creationist is someone who supports creationism. They believe in a God who is the absolute creator of both heaven and earth. They were created out of nothing and by an act of free will. They believe that God is constantly involved in his creation. He is also ready to intervene at any time that he feels is necessary. Creationists include Christians, Muslims and Jews. Because creationism means the direct taking of the Bible, creationists take the Bible as a true guide to the history of life. Creationists believe that God put Adam on the earth first. He then created Eve. They also believe that there was a world-wide flood after the initial creation. Some creationists believe the universe was created less than 10,000 years ago (Stencil 759). Creationists feel that evolution goes against the Bible. They also feel that supporting the theory of evolution is sacrilegious (“Creationism”). It is impossible to prove that God does not exist. In Today’s society there are many things that parents would like to control for the well being of their child while he or she is growing up. An example of that is when you see a parent deny their kids of listen to a certain kind of music or watching a certain show. Every parent has their own idea of how they believe that there child should be raised. The same concept applies when it comes to teaching. Adults want to filter what is being taught which leads to the argument of creation vs. evolution in schools. Some adults think it is blasphemous to teach evolution and vise versa with creation in the class room. This is an issue that has raged on for years and will be explored starting with the teachings of evolution. The study of evolution is the theory of history on this earth. Evolution teaches that humans have evolved over time from animals that live on earth. The Merriam-Webster’s dictionary gives the definition that it is "a theory that the various types of animals and plants have their origin in other preexisting types and that the distinguishable differences are due to modifications in successive generations..." Now this relates to creation vs. evolution because some people feel this is one hundred percent the truth and right. Some people believe that God does not exist and that this is more scientific and factual proof that this is how humans came to be on this earth. To support their argument in 1963 there was a case held by the Supreme Court called Murray vs. Cutlet. This case which ruled in the favor of the evolutionist stating that reading the Bible in class, praying and the teaching of creation where un constructional and they were taken out of schools. So the end result was no more teaching of creation. The teaching of creation states that people are all here because of God. God created everything and he has given everyone life. The first man and women were created by God...

Let the Earth Bring Forth.
The phrase "let the earth bring forth..." occurs three times in Genesis 1 (verses 11, 20 with water, 24). It does not refer to simple growth from nutrients, because this chapter is about creation. The literal meaning of this phrase matches theistic evolution better than any other creation theory! It's almost a definition of theistic evolution, which is why I put it at the top of this essay. God commanded the earth to produce animals, and the planet did so according to His command.

Evolution vs. Creationism essays

In the evolutionary process, an increase in biological complexity does not represent a “free lunch” — it is bought and paid for, because random genetic variation is subjected to natural selection by the environment, which itself is already structured. In fact, researchers are beginning to use Darwinian processes, implemented in computers or in vitro, to evolve complex systems and to provide solutions to design problems in ways that are beyond the power of mere intelligent agents.

This essay came about only because anti-evolution views were thrust forward at a worship service. I heed the warning in Titus 3:9-11: "Don't get involved in arguing over unanswerable questions and controversial theological ideas; keep out of arguments and quarrels about obedience to Jewish laws, for this kind of thing isn't worthwhile; it only does harm. If anyone is causing divisions among you, he should be given a first and second warning. After that have nothing more to do with him, for such a person has a wrong sense of values. He is sinning, and he knows it."
